In Ancient Greece, when the philosopher Socrates was asked to sum up what all philosophical commandments could be reduced to, he replied: ‘Know Yourself’. Self-knowledge matters so much because it is only on the basis of an accurate sense of who we are that we can make reliable decisions – particularly around love and work.
Although my conversation with Howard Chasser was meant to be (mainly) around the topics of the Natural foods business and organic foods, we expanded and talked about self-knowledge, spirituality and philosophical ideas.
Howard Chasser was practically born into the Natural foods business. His mother opened their natural food store (Jandi’s) when Howard was just nine years old. He later went on to earn a degree in accounting with minors in business administration and psychology. Howard joined his mother and brother full time at Jandi’s in 1991. He also participated in the passing of DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994).
